Fancy carved wooden door in Habana Vieja, Cuba
This was an amazingly detailed and carved wooden door that I came across on the main shopping street, Calle Obispo, in Habana Vieja, Cuba. Part of the attraction aside from the ornateness, was how tall and incredibly narrow it was. No grand pianos or sofas are going through that!
A Fruit Seller
Fruit and vegetables are often sold in Havana off of bicycle carts similar to these. The sellers seem to have their regular spots as well. On different days and on different trips, I would spot the same people in the same spots. The fruit here looked gorgeous!
Una Bolsa de las Piñas - A Bag of Pineapples
A pineapple is good and a bag of pineapples is better, especially if there is fresh juice being made with them. The only problem is the needing to carry them up four or five flights of stairs daily. This is part of daily life in Havana, Cuba.
Just a regular street scene in Habana Vieja, Cuba
Everywhere I looked in Habana Vieja, there was some interesting detail to explore. It could be a person, an almendron (one of those old American cars), architectural details, urban decay, beautiful color, daily living. This one drawing has all of that. Just on an ordinary street.
A Woman Enjoying the Sun - Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Habana Vieja, Cuba
The woman here had her eyes closed and had her face turned up to the sun. There was lovely light and interesting angles inside this castle or fort. The stone work was fabulous!
A Work in Progress - Castillo de la Real Fuerza
This is a work in progress from Habana Vieja and the Castillo de la Real Fuerza. There are lots of lovely shades and nuances in the stones and I thought I'd play with stippling in some texture before I added color.
