Contour Line Nature Drawings
I signed up for an online course called, "Beginning a Nature Journal," taught by Jan Blencowe. This spread is for the first assignment to gather some things to draw from the garden or outside and do contour line drawings of them, add some text and create a frame around the drawing. I added some watercolor and a bit of stippling to add some detail, but both of those were outside the scope of the assignment.
Color Chart
This is a color chart from a limited palette of 9 colors that I was trying out for a travel palette: 2 yellow, 2 reds, 2 blues and a neutral color from each of those color families. I like the concept, but not quite this mix. I've found another empty palette that I can squeeze 20 half pans into and I'm now testing those color mixes to see which ones I'd like to add to and switch out from these nine shown above. I definitely need and want a cobalt teal or turquoise, a pink and a bright purple.
Old Car Taxi from the Havana Airport
This fabulous old car was the taxi my friend Clare and I took with our helper/guide Angel from the Havana airport into Old Havana. There was a chain holding the back of the front bench seat up, the doors didn't quite fit the door frames anymore since I could see a gap when inside, and the trunk was closed by screwing a nut and bolt together from underneath the back bumper.
Viola Botanical Illustration
Here is a botanical illustration in watercolor that I did of Luktviol, viola odorata. It is from an exercise I did in a Botanical Art Sketchbook workshop.
A Leonardo Drapery Exercise
This is a graphite drawing I did trying to copy Leonardo da Vinci's example. I also kept track of my time spent on this. I don't usually but I was curious how long this one would be. I did it in 15-20 minute sessions and it took 335 minutes, or a little more than 5 1/2 hours.
A Man Sitting in Front of his House, Old Havana, Cuba
This is a drawing of a man I saw sitting in front of his house, a normal enough thing. But the building had lots of scaffolding set up supporting the second story balcony. A scene of regular people just living side by side with urban decay.
Everyday Matters #60 - Draw a car or part of one
This is a drawing using the prompt from an Everyday Matters list - to draw a car or part of one. I was waiting in my car while one of my kiddos was at a lesson. It was January and had gotten dark really early. I was interested by the glow inside the car from the various lights and thought I'd try for this view.
